Daughters of the American Revolution

Members of the Mountain Rendezvous Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution, recently enjoyed a field trip to Gilpin County. The chapter is based in Evergreen but has several members who live in Gilpin County.
Timberline Fire Department and the Gilpin Sheriff’s office were the first stops. Chapter members brought goodies to thank these First Responders as a part of DAR’s National Day of Service.
Nevadaville’s City Hall was opened for the group. Mary Peery, owner of the building, gave a history lesson of both the City Hall and Nevadaville. Local mine historian and realtor, Dick Ummel, shared his wealth of knowledge of all the mining in the area. At one point, that area was the richest square mile in the country.
Finally, Freemasons Lew Wagner, George Snyder and Bill Skewes opened Masonic Lodge #6 in Central City. They shared the history of the building, Freemasonry in Colorado, the astounding murals in the hall and, of course, the magnificent portrait of George Washington.
