Art exhibits returns to Gilpin Library

Homebound outreach begins and new Library Friends needed

By Jeffrey Eggleston

After 17 months of barren walls, the Community Meeting Room at the Gilpin County Public Library will once again be adorned with local artistic talent. The 2021-2022 Library Art Program will run through next May and showcase five local artists. Each exhibit will be on display for seven weeks in the Meeting Room.

From August 28th to October 16th, Robin Keys of Central City will be displaying her natural photography series, “Peak 2 Peek.” The artist will be hosting a reception at the Library on Saturday, September 11th, from 12-2 pm with light refreshments served. The other featured artists in the program include: Virginia Unseld (Black Hawk, painting), David Josselyn (Black Hawk, photography), Amy Love (Evergreen, fabric and paper art), and Donna Dannen (Evergreen, photography). Future exhibit details and event announcements are forthcoming.

As book clubs and programs are revived, a generous grant from the Alan Green Memorial Foundation has helped launch a new outreach program focused on improving County-wide library access. Beginning in September, the Library will offer regular delivery of materials to Gilpin County residents unable to visit in person due to age, disability, or illness. The Homebound Delivery Program provides residential drop-off and pick-up of library materials, extended checkout periods, and readers’ advisory to ensure that a good book is always within reach. Thanks to the AGMF, the Library will also be expanding its large print collection. Eligible patrons are encouraged to contact Jeffrey Eggleston of Adult Services at 303-569-9950 to sign up.
Finally, the Library is seeking new Friends. Do you appreciate library services and want to make a lasting impact on the community? The Library needs you! The Friends of the Gilpin County Public Library is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization comprised of community members that lend their voices, time, and talents to support the GCPL’s fundraising and advocacy efforts. All interested are invited to attend the next meeting on September 16th at 6:30 pm. Subsequent meetings will be held on the third Thursday of each month at 6:30 pm.
