Wrestlers continue to exceed expectations!

wrestlingGilpin County Youth Wrestling at Brush HS

In the halls and gyms of Brush High School last Saturday you could hear coaches and parents from all over Colorado saying “Those Gilpin kids are tough!” For us, that is the greatest proof and greatest compliment of all the hard work that our kids have been putting in.

Cooley Murdoch U6 37 lbs., Joey Airola U12 80 lbs., Kaleb Oliver U12 95 lbs., Michael Wenholz U14 100 lbs., and Mateo Maldonado U14 150 lbs. all went undefeated and won gold against 5A competition. Cooley had six pins in one day which may never happen again as Brush had some larger brackets giving our kids more matches than would typically be available.

Even our younger kids and our kids who are just starting out held their own and won some matches against big schools with really experienced wrestlers. We are putting ourselves on the map and it’s amazing to witness.

Gilpin County Youth Wrestling will have kids competing on Sunday at Broomfield High School, where Coach Todd Oliver and Coach Nick Weichel will be leading our kids at the annual Hall of Fame Tournament which will feature top wrestlers from all over the state.
