Win bragging rights at the Gilpin County Fair

There’s something for everyone to try at the Gilpin County Fair. Whether it’s before, during or after, there is a contest for you! Find more information for each contest at

Photo Contest – Take photos at the Fair, then enter your best shots in our Facebook contest. Be sure to vote for your favorite by September 1 to help choose the winner!

Gilpin Gourmet – Enter your best breads, jams, desserts, pickles, candies, jerky and home-brewed beer. Beer entries are due by Thursday, August 16 in the Exhibit Barn, while all food entries are due Saturday, August 18 by 6:00 pm in the Official Gilpin County Fair Tent (where you can buy your Fair t-shirt). Entries will be judged by a panel of food experts.
Not interested in cooking, but like to eat? You can take home a food or drink from the Contest by bidding at the Auction on Sunday, August 19 at 2:00 pm at the Stage.

Dog Agility – Bring your dog on Sunday, August 19 at 11:00 am for this fun, family-friendly event. Dogs and handlers are asked to strut their stuff and simply do their best on an easy-going agility course. Everyone’s a winner, but who will be the 2018 champion?

ATV Rodeo – Calling all 4-wheeling enthusiasts! Bring your ATV on Sunday, August 19 by 11:00 am for this fun and unique event. Speed around barrels in the barrel racing, pop over a teeter-totter in the obstacle course, then play ATV soccer with your friends. It’s guaranteed to be a good time!

Log Splitting – You get plenty of practice, now’s the time to show us what you’ve got! Stop by the Contest Area on Saturday, August 18 to see how fast you can split three logs. Then, we will award the 2018 Champion at 3:30 pm. Thank you to High Timber Firewood and Logging for providing the materials.

Horseshoes – Enjoy pitching with your friends and neighbors in a little friendly competition on Sunday, August 19. Registration opens at 10:00 am. New this year, we’ve added a women’s only division!

Talent & Karaoke – Are you the next big star? We’re looking for the best talent in and around Gilpin County. To enter, visit the DJ at the Stage before the Contest begins on Saturday, August 18 at 3:00 pm.

BMX – From preschoolers to grandparents, everyone is welcome to try the BMX track. Speed around the track and over obstacles to get the best time. Each day, three age groups will be awarded ribbons and gift certificates.

Mutton Bustin’ and Sheep Scramble – Here’s your chance! Youth weighing 60 pounds or less can enter the mutton bustin’ in one of the four performances throughout the weekend. A little too big for the mutton bustin’? Ages 8-12 can enter the Sheep Scramble where you try to catch a ribbon off of a sheep’s neck – Saturday during the Mardi Gras Bulls and Beads Rodeo. Registration opens 30 minutes before each event.
