February 27, 1961 – June 17, 2020
Thomas James Gish, 59, of Black Hawk, passed away suddenly on June 17, 2020, at home. Tommy had lived in Black Hawk and Gilpin County for over 30 years. Tommy loved life and flamboyantly charged through it without remorse. Tommy was always capturing hearts along the way with his easy laughter and fast wit. He saw beauty in everything he encountered and loved to spend time during the summer in his garden filled with flowers.
Tommy served his Black Hawk community by showing up early and staying late for event setups, clean-up days, or serving on the Historic Preservation Commission. Tommy loved caring for the community that he adored so much. He was an unstoppable force of fun and imagination.
He was Greg Moates’ husband, partner, and best friend during a relationship that spanned 33 years. Greg is honored, lucky, and blessed to have had Tommy in his life for those many years. Tommy will be deeply missed and remembered forever by his family and so many in the Black Hawk community. He was and will always be, “Our Tommy.”
Tommy is survived by his husband, Greg Moates, of Black Hawk, his beloved black lab “Bongo,” one sister, Tammy Gish-Henry, three brothers, Lonnie, Rodney, and Roger, one niece, Tiffany Morrell, and two nephews, Brandon and Aaron Gish, extended family and many, many friends. Tommy was preceded in death by his father, Leo Gish, and his mother, Darlene Leetch.
His family wishes to thank everyone who offered their expressions of love, memories, and caring at Tommy’s passing. In place of flowers, a GoFundMe page has been established to assist with final expenses, at www.gofundme.com/f/for-my-tommy.
