Ship graveyard

Ode to a fishing boat

by Dave Gibson

You gave everything you had old girl
Delivering us safely to shore in many a squall
When yet young you glistened like a pearl
The fish we caught – a living that fed us all

Now that the years have passed and paint faded
Motor seized and hull leaking
The good times we had can’t be overstated
But your cleats are rusty and the cabin is creaking

So the day has come, I regret
To say goodbye is oh so hard
It’s time to sail into the sunset my friend
Docked forever in the ship graveyard
