New contests at the Gilpin County Fair

We’ve added a Fabric & Fiber Arts Contest & Show, a Chili Cook-Off, Battle of the Bands, Gymkhana, and new categories for the Gilpin Gourmet Contest, for nearly 15 different contests! Join-in the fun on July 12 through 14.

Fabric & Fiber Arts – Calling all stitchers, knitters, spinners and more! Pre-enter your handmade piece by July 1 and then come view the Show throughout the weekend in the Community Center.

Chili Cook-Off – Enter your best vegetarian and meat chilis by July 1. The Cook Off will take place at Fired Up Friday, the evening of July 12. Sponsored by Gilpin County Parks and Rec with proceeds going to Gilpin Senior Living.

Battle of the Bands – Winnings will total $1000! Enter your band by July 1 or come vote on your favorite band on Saturday, July 13.

Gymkhana – Bring your horse and race around the barrels, poles and more to compete for new, special prizes on Sunday, July 14.

Gilpin Gourmet – We’ve expanded! You can now enter your home-brewed beer, any baked goods, all preserved foods and nearly anything else you would like to bring. Bring your entries to the Community Center on Saturday, July 13 from noon to 3:00pm. Awards will be on the Stage on Sunday at 1:00pm.
Not interested in cooking, but like to eat? You can take home a dish from the Contest by bidding at the Auction on Sunday, July 14 at 1:00pm at the Stage; proceeds support the Gilpin County Food Bank.

ATV Rodeo – Calling all 4-wheeling enthusiasts! Bring your ATV on Saturday, July 13 by 10:30am for this fun and unique event sponsored by JKQ BBQ. Speed around barrels and poles and then play ATV soccer with your friends. It’s guaranteed to be a good time!

Horseshoes – Now on Saturday, enjoy pitching with your friends and neighbors in a little friendly competition. Registration opens at 10:00am.

Log Splitting – You get plenty of practice, now’s the time to show us what you’ve got! (We’ve even added a Women’s Division this year!) Stop by the Contest Area on Sunday, July 14 to see how fast you can split 3 logs. Then, we will award the 2019 Champion at 2:30pm. Thank you to High Timber Firewood and Logging for providing the materials.

Talent & Karaoke – Are you the next big star? We’re looking for the best talent in and around Gilpin County. To enter, visit the DJ at the Stage before the Contest begins on Saturday, July 13 at 2:00.

Dog Agility – Bring your dog on Sunday, July 14 for this fun, family-friendly event. Dogs and handlers are asked to strut their stuff and simply do their best on an easy-going agility course. Everyone’s a winner, but who will be the 2019 champion?

BMX – From preschoolers to grandparents, everyone is welcome to try the BMX track. Speed around the track and over obstacles to get the best time. Each day, 3 age groups will be awarded ribbons and gift certificates.

Mutton Bustin’ and Sheep Scramble – Here’s your chance! Youth weighing 60 pounds or less can enter the mutton bustin’ in one of the four performances throughout the weekend. A little too big for the mutton bustin’? Ages 8-12 can enter the Sheep Scramble where you try to catch a ribbon off of a sheep’s neck- Saturday during the Bulls and Beads Rodeo. Registration opens 30 minutes before each event under the eaves of the Barn.

Photo Contest – Take photos at the Fair, then enter your best shots in our Facebook contest. Be sure to vote for your favorite by August 1 to help choose the winner!
