February 29, 1972 – September 20, 2013

Lloyd Stace Williams, of Central City, CO, passed away on Friday, September 20th. He was born in Black Hawk, CO on February 29, 1972 to Lloyd and LesLee Williams, both whom preceded him in death.  He was 41 (or 10 – because he was a leap year baby.)

Stace graduated from Gilpin County High School in 1990 and volunteered for the Central City Fire Department from June 1989 – July 1998. After high school, he worked for Coors, Solution Gold, the City of Black Hawk, Coyote Creek Casino and as a deputy for the Gilpin County Sheriff’s Department.

Stace grew up in the mountains of Central City and was a mountain boy in every sense of the word. He ran the mountains, followed by his many friends, chasing cattle, catching snakes and searching for gold the miners may have missed. As he grew older, Stace enjoyed riding around in his truck blaring country music and riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle as often as he could.

Last year, Stace met Sue Brown. He knew he had finally found “the one” and they set their wedding date for Friday, September 20th. The bachelor party was supposed to have been on Friday, September 13th, but those plans soon changed when Stace ended up in the hospital for what turned out to be his final days. Stace couldn’t bear to leave this earth without the world knowing how much he loved Sue, so they decided to move their wedding up one week and that evening, 25 people crammed into his room at St. Anthony’s Hospital and witnessed what some thought would never happen…Stace got married, and pigs flew. It was a beautiful, tragic love affair. Sue was the other half he was looking for, the one who balanced him, and the one who made his life complete. Stace had some time to say goodbye to his friends and family and to reminisce about old times before he passed away.

Stace is survived by his wife, Sue, his only sister, Sonjah Dunn, and his five brothers, Sammy Yanchunis, Steven Yanchunis, Stewart Yanchunis, Scott Yanchunis, and his little brother, Danny Williams. He is also survived by aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and dozens of close friends.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 12th as follows:

4 p.m. – William C. Russell Park, Central City, CO – Farewell Toast to Stace

5-9 p.m. – Central City Elks Lodge, Central City, CO – Reception

Donations may be made at any First Bank in the name of Lloyd Stace Williams, or given to Donda Gorton to give to the family.
