Gilpin Tournament Roundup

Gilpin County School’s Lady Eagles varsity team achieved victory in two of three tournament games at home August 30. Their record is 2-1 to start the season.

Match with Denver Waldorf

  Gilpin triumphed over the Denver team 2-1, with set scores of 25/13, 20/25, and 15/4.

The team was strong in digs, with a total of 39. Siera Planck led with 11, followed by Alyssa Chareunsouk with 9, Stephanie Siegrist with 8, and Kelsi Buhr with 3. Andi Ramsey, Ashlen Cortez, Sarah Baisley, and Kim Wulf Balosch each contributed 2 digs.

The Eagles had a total of 14 kills. Ramsey led the team with 5, Planck had 4, Siegrist 3, while Buhr and Balosch each had one.

Several teammates boasted serving aces: Planck and Balosch each with 3, and Ramsey, Chareunsouk, and Siegrist each with 2.

Serving received success was an important factor in the win also; Chareunsouk had 10, Planck 8, Balosch 5, and Buhr and Baisley one each, for a total of 25.

In blocks, Ramsey had one solo block and Cortez one block assist.

No statistics were available for Denver Waldorf.

Match with Shining Mountain

  Gilpin won over Shining Mountain 2-0, with set scores of 25/23 and 25/18.

Digs were significant in the game. The Lady Eagles had 39 digs, while Shining Mountain had none. Chareunsouk led the Eagles with 11, followed by Siegrist with 7, Balosch, Planck, and Baisley with 5, Cortez with 4, and Ramsey with 2.

In kills, Ramsey and Siegrist had 5 each, Balosch followed with 4, and Cortez and Baisley had one each.

Cortez was on top with 7 serving aces; Ramsey joined with 4, and Siegrist and Balosch with one each.

The Eagles also bested Shining Mountain in the area of serving received success, with a total of 30 to 20. Chareunsouk led with 9, Siegrist and Balosch with 6, Baisley with 4, Planck with 3, and Burh and Ariel Planck with one apiece.

In ball handling assists, Cortez came in with 12, and Balosch helped out with 2.

Shining Mountain was superior to Gilpin in blocking, however, with five blocks, while Gilpin had none.

Match with Dayspring Christian Academy

Gilpin struggled against Dayspring, losing the game 0-2. Set scores were 11/25 and 19/25.

Dayspring had better success in kills, with a total of 29. For the Lady Eagles, Ramsey and Planck led with 4 each, and Cortez and Siegrist had 2 apiece; Balosch contributed one kill.

The Eagles were slightly ahead in digs, with a total of 51 to Dayspring’s 47. Chareunsouk was first for Gilpin with 19, followed by Siegrist and Planck with 10, Balosch and Cortez with 4, Ramsey with 3, and Baisley with one.

Dayspring had 40 serves received, compared to Gilpin’s 24. Leading for the Eagles was Chareunsouk with 16, then Planck with 14, Siegrist with 6, Balosch with 3, and Cortez with one.

  Cortez and Planck each had one serving ace; Dayspring came in with 7.

Baisley had a lone solo block for Gilpin, while Dayspring had 6 solo blocks and 7 assists.

Cortez contributed 10 ball handling assists, and Ramsey helped with one. Dayspring had 22 assists.
