Lady Eagles volleyball team comes out on top

Gilpin wins against Jefferson 3-0

Gilpin County School’s Lady Eagles varsity team blew past rival Jefferson High School Saints 3-0 in a home non-conference game September 5. An enthusiastic crowd cheered the team on to victory, with set scores of 25/13, 25/17, and 25/10. The team’s record is 3-1.

Andi Ramsey led the Lady Eagles in kills with 8. Kelsi Buhr followed with 4, while Sarah Baisley, Stephanie Siegrist, and Kim Wulf Balosch each had 2 kills. Alyssa Chareunsouk and Ashlen Cortez had one apiece.

Cortez led in serving aces with 7. Chareunsouk and Balosch had 2 apiece, and Ramsey and Siegrist added one each.

The Lady Eagles got their digs in; Cortez leading in this area with 13, Chareunsouk with 9, Siegrist with 8, Balosch and Ramsey with 6, Alexis Kennedy and Buhr with 3, Baisley with 2, and Ariel Planck adding one.

Buhr and Ramsey each contributed one solo block.

In ball handling assists, Cortez came in with 16, and Balosch helped out with 2.

Serving received success also contributed to the win; Chareunsouk led with 10, followed by Balosch with 5, Siegrist with 4, Buhr with 4, Kennedy with 2, and Ramsey, Planck, and Baisley each with one.

No statistics were available for Jefferson.

The Eagles junior varsity team lost its match with Jefferson, winning one out of three sets.

The teams play at Nederland on September 10, junior varsity at 5:00 p.m. and varsity at 6:00 p.m.
