Lady Eagles get scratched by Lady Cats

Gilpin girls versus North Park

By Patty Unruh

The Gilpin High School girls’ basketball team dropped 39-31 in home non-conference play on December 18 against North Park’s Lady Cats. The Lady Eagles now possess a 1-4 record.

The game looked hopeful, as Gilpin took an early lead, which they held throughout the first quarter, to end that period 10-6. North Park fought back and caught up 16-16 by halftime. Gilpin’s rivals pulled ahead during the second half, but only just managed to squeak by the Lady Eagles to win.

It was a pitched battle, with plenty of stealing and wrestling over the ball. Delainey Lepro and Julia Blohm both hit the floor during the game, but bounced back after brief rest periods.

Senior stand-out Alyssa Chareunsouk has been sidelined with an injured foot since the tournaments at South Park early in the season. She is on the mend, and we look forward to seeing her back after Christmas break.
