Lady Eagles disappointed in tournament play

Gilpin finish season with losses to Rocky Mountain Lutheran and Belleview Christian

In a heartbreaker, the Gilpin County Lady Eagles basketball team got nudged in its tournament game against Rocky Mountain Lutheran (RML) 31-30 on March 1. RML squeaked by at the last moment to beat the Eagles for District third place.

Gilpin girls also lost their tournament game February 26 against Belleview Christian 58-18. Despite having a very successful season, the Eagles struggled all evening against their rival.

Ashlen Cortez scored half the points for Gilpin in the game with Belleview. Samantha Peterson, Delainey Lepro, Hannah Randall, and Katura Sales also scored.

The Eagles had a 15-5 record going into the game. Had they won, they would have gone on to the District Championship.
