Great performances, but varsity no longer undefeated

Match with Vail Christian

Gilpin County School Lady Eagles fought hard, but suffered their first loss of the season 26-28 in a non-league bout against the Vail Christian Saints January 11. The Lady Eagles are 8-1 for the season.

The lead bounced back and forth, but Vail managed to squeak by Gilpin in the final quarter. Delainey Lepro and Andromeda Ramsey led the Eagles in scoring with five points each, followed by Khristine Barr and Samantha Peterson with four points each. Ashlen Cortez and Alyssa Charensouk each contributed three points, and Stephanie Siegrist added two.

Lepro and Cortez each put in three-point field goals. Ramsey shot three free throws, Barr had two, and Chareunsouk added one.

Versus North Park

Gilpin pulled off a win 40-36 at home against the North Park (Walden) Wildcats January 10 in non-conference play. Ramsey and Peterson were high scorers for the Lady Eagles, with 18 points and 15 points, respectively. Barr shot five points, and Charensouk added two.

Sixteen points were made with free throws. Peterson scored with seven, Ramsey with six, Charensouk with two, and Barr with one.

The rest of the scoring came with two-point field goals made by Ramsey with six, Peterson with four, and Barr with two.

Against Alexander Dawson

The varsity girls crushed the Alexander Dawson Mustangs (Lafayette) at home January 8. The score was 46-21 in favor of Gilpin, with the Lady Eagles leading all the way.

Junior Varsity Game Results

The JV had three consecutive losses this month, following a winning season so far. The Eagles were nipped 18-19 in their non-conference match against Vail Christian on January 11. They also lost to North Park 17-26 in a home non-conference game January 10. The first game of 2013, against the Strasburg Indians, resulted in a 25-42 blowout.
