In a coordinated suicide, mother and daughter Deborah Jean Bender and Jennifer Leigh Laubhan left this world together on September 9, 2013, at their home in Golden, Colorado.

Jennifer Laubhan, daughter of Zane Laubhan of Central City and Deborah Bender of Golden, was born January 31, 1986. She was 27 years old at the time of her death. Jennifer graduated from Gilpin County High School in 2004. She is survived by her two dads, Zane Laubhan and Ron Engels of Central City; brother Daniel Black of Golden; grandfather Bennie Laubhan, Jr. of Colorado Springs; grandmother Georgeanne Featherstone of Winterset, Iowa and grandparents Gilbert and Laurie Crooks of Merrill, Michigan. Jennifer had five aunts and multiple cousins.

Deborah Jean Bender, daughter of Gilbert Crooks and Georgeanne Featherstone, was born May 22, 1958. She was 55 years old at the time of her death. Debbie enjoyed taking care of people in her career as a critical care nurse. She is survived by her son Daniel Black, of Golden; her granddaughter Vanessa Black of Golden, Georgeanne Featherstone, her mother, and father and step-mother, Gilbert and Laurie Crooks. Deborah had two sisters, Sherry Mainwaring and Karen Stichter.

She also leaves behind three ex-husbands, David Black, Zane Laubhan, and Merlin Bender, all of whom mourned her death together at a memorial service last weekend.

Both Deborah and Jennifer were cremated through Aspen Mortuaries in Lakewood, and will be interred at Arvada Cemetery.
