Girls’ track places at Early Bird Invitational

First Track Meet of Season

Gilpin County High School’s track and field athletes started their season with the Early Bird Invitational at Thornton on March 15. The Eagles girls placed 14th of 18 teams. Green Mountain took top honors at the non-conference event.

The boys’ team did not place but got some much-needed experience. The next meet will be on April 4 at the Thunderhawk Twilight Invitational at Henderson.

Girls’ 100-meter dash: 22nd-Nicole Adams, 14.43; 27th-Ashley Parkhurst, 15.10.

Boys’ 100-meter dash: 39th-Braedyn Perez, 13.00; 42nd-Manny Gomez, 13.05; 44th-Mike Wenholz, 13.72.

Girls’ 200-meter dash: 25th-Nicole Adams, 31.65; 34th-Ashley Parkhurst, 33.48.

Boys’ 200-meter dash: 35th-Braedyn Perez, 27.03; Manny Gomez, 27.98; Mike Wenholz, 30.67.

Boys’ 400-meter dash: 38th-Josh Trujillo, 1:04.92.

Girls’ 1600-meter: 17th-Lena Warren, 6:57.53.

Boys’ 4×100-meter relay: 12th, 54.51.

Girls’ 300-meter hurdles: 10th-Keely Schmidt, 56.89.

Girls’ 800 sprint medley: 7th-Gilpin Relay Team, 2:14.66.

Boys’ long jump: 33rd-Manny Gomez, 14’0.00.

Girls’ long jump: 26th-Ashley Parkhurst, 9’11.00.

Girls’ high jump: 4th-Keely Schmidt, 4’4.00; 8th-Nicole Adams, 4’4.00.

Boys’ shot put: 33rd-Jake Duncan, 28’2.50; 38th-Tristan Froio, 25’3.50.

Girls’ shot put: 15th-Shania Gonzales, 24’8.00.

Boys’ discus: 38th-Jake Duncan, 59’0.00; 40th-Tristan Froio, 58’3.00.

Girls’ discus: 9th-Shania Gonzales, 76’0.00.

Baseball v. Clear Creek

The Eagles took a painful 30-0 loss to the Clear Creek Golddiggers of Evergreen on March 14 in a neutral non-conference matchup. Gilpin now has a 1-1 record, while Clear Creek’s record is 2-1.

Gilpin’s Sam Snyder was selected as Player of the Game for the Eagles. The senior was 2 for 2 at the plate and played solid defense on loss, noted Coach Tony Lorenz.

Other Gilpin highlights included stolen bases by Snyder, J.P. DiMarco, and Daniel Jewell, and 12 put-outs, including 4 by Will Lorenz and 2 each by Snyder, Manny Gomez, and Cooper Lindberg. Gomez, Snyder, Lindberg, Eryk Lorenz, and Chad Holmes each gained experience on the pitcher’s mound.

Isaiah Mercer scored 6 runs for the Golddiggers. Jonah Rich came in with 5 hits. The Clear Creek team accomplished 2 home runs.
