Gilpin HS Football starts season with win

Team crushes Miami-Yoder 34-22

The Gilpin Eagles High School football team got off to a good start with its first non-conference away game against Miami-Yoder August 24. 

Final score was 34-22, with the Eagles scoring five touchdowns. Freshman Matthew Immordino and sophomore Bjorn Tomlinson each made two touchdowns, and sophomore QB Chase Boulter also got one. Tomlinson also made four conversion points. Boulter passed for 88 yards.

Overall player of the game was freshman OLB and RB Matthew Immordino. Football coaching staff stated, “Immordino was everywhere this game, with great running and special teams play.” He was also offensive player of the game.

Junior TB and MLB Dalton Dziedzic was defensive player of the game. “Dziedzic was very solid on defense and made numerous tackles.”

The Eagles were strong on tackles overall, with a total of 47 for the team. Dziedzic led the team with 14 tackles, and Immordino was close behind with 11. Tomlinson got 6, Andrew Immordino 4, and Tyler Stevens 4.

Leading rushers were Matthew Immordino with 88 yards, Tomlinson with 77, and Boulter with 26. The team rushed for 219 yards, passed for 88 yards, and gained 88 yards on receiving. Immordino returned two kickoffs for a total of 49 yards, and Dziedzic returned one punt for 14 yards.

Junior Gerardo Correa made one fumble recovery, and Tomlinson sacked the QB twice.

In action August 31, the Eagles were not quite so fortunate, with a heartbreaking home game loss to Soroco, 60-6.
