Middle School wins against Lyons; High School suffers loss

Middle School Game

The Gilpin Middle School football team scored a victory September 10 in its home game with Lyons. The team scored 8 points in the second quarter and six in the fourth quarter to win 14-0.

Gilpin had 6 first downs for 64 yards rushing. They passed for 35 yards and had 8 return yards. Total yardage was 107 compared with Lyons’ 50. The Eagles racked up 25 penalties; the Lyons team had 45. Gilpin had 2 turnovers, and Lyons one.

Manny Gomez led the team in ball carries with 13 times for 46 yards, the longest carry for 14 yards. Justin Stundon followed with 10 carries for 22 yards; the longest carry for 9 yards.

QB Will Lorenz passed 4 times for 35 yards; the longest pass was 22 yards.

Troy Blackmon caught two passes for 35 yards. The longer of his two runs was 22 yards.

Jack Ball made two solo tackles, with Gomez and Kyle Viboolsittiseri contributing one solo tackle each.

John Immordino had three kickoffs, the longest being 50 yards, and Tommy Quaranto had one kick return.

High School Game

The Gilpin High School football team was crushed 8-52 by the Sangre de Cristo Thunderbirds in its non-league away game on September 13. The Eagles now sport a 1-2 record.
