Silent auction raises $2,376

It was a frightfully good time at the yearly Halloween Carnival and Trick or Treat Street held on Friday, November 2 at Gilpin County School. The Parent Teacher Association at Gilpin County hosted the carnival to raise money to support the teachers with their classroom needs. PTA officers Mary Perkins and Angela Webb supplied the vital stats about this year’s haunted happening.

Guys and ghouls enjoyed 12 games, a bounce house, the infamous haunted house, the jail, and a giant slide. New this year was a “Littles Room,” with games, arts and crafts, and a little kid bounce house, the PTA reported.

The elementary classes held a competition to collect candy for the trick-or-treating. 610 pounds were donated and dispensed to eager children by local volunteers. Contest winners were: first place, Ms. Haley’s class; second place, Ms. Nelson’s class; third place, Ms. Morris’ class.

Participants brought in 250 pounds of food for the Gilpin County Food Bank.

The pumpkin carving contest was won by Tori Turner with her Day of the Dead pumpkin. The costume contest was won by Oliver Hardy with his Cat Astronaut costume.

The silent auction generated $2,376 for the teachers’ wish list fund and included 50 donors and fabulous finds. The PTA wishes to thank the following donors for contributing:

Manley’s BBQ, Monarch Casino, Lodge Casino, SeaGirl Pearl’s, J&K BBQ, Smoke Inhalation BBQ, Four Points Acupuncture, In His Image Embroidery, Rollinsville Auto, Kysar’s Place, Mtn.
