On Valentine’s Day, Mark William Cappello, a 46 year old resident of Central City was arrested by the Mobile County Sheriff’s Office as a suspect in a triple homicide in Forestville, California on February 5, 2103. On February 5th, three men were found dead in a cabin near Forestville, California, including Todd Klarkowski of Boulder, Colorado. The Sonoma County sheriff’s lieutenant said the men were waiting for someone who was going to sell them marijuana. “People associated with the victims said it was a pot deal gone bad. We believe the victims were associated with another involved party. The victims were the buyers,” Lt. Dennis O’Leary said.
On February 13th, officers from the Central City Police Department, K9 handlers from the Jefferson County Sherriff’s Department, detectives from Sonoma County, and member of the Boulder County Narcotics Task Force served a search warrant in the 200 block of Third High Street. They collected evidence and conducted interview during the search.
On February 14th, Cappello was arrested in Mobile, Alabama as a primary suspect after being pulled over for a traffic violation. Cappello exercised his right to remain silent and declined to be interviewed by detectives.
Cappello is a member of the Central City Historical Preservation Committee and has been a familiar face at City Council meetings.
