Beat the I-70 traffic jam and ski or ride at Eldora

With a foot of new snow!

By Sam Bass

Eldora got walloped by a foot of snow between early Saturday and Sunday night, and our guests again enjoyed amazing conditions in one of our best early seasons in more than two decades. Eldora opened on November 7, the very first Ikon Pass resort in Colorado to do so, and one of the first in the nation.

Because of media coverage on Saturday about congestion and accidents on I-70, a lot of skiers and riders decided to come to Eldora on Sunday. Our parking lots reached full capacity around 9:30 a.m., at which time we had to hold cars outside the resort until morning visitors began to vacate around 11:00 a.m. We love the enthusiasm and loyalty so many have for Eldora, and we understand how frustrating congestion can be. We’d love your help in avoiding future congestion. Here are some helpful tips for guests planning to visit on weekends, holidays, and powder days:

1) Take RTD’s N Route public bus straight to our Alpenglow high-speed chairlift, with no parking headaches. There’s plenty of free weekend parking at RTD’s Boulder Station and elsewhere in town.

2) If you must drive, please carpool with 3+ passengers.

3) Arrive at Eldora early (8:15-8:30 a.m.) to beat the traffic 9 to 11 a.m. traffic bubble.

4) Consider visiting on a weekday, when parking lots and lift lines are empty and the mountain is all yours!

Located just 21 miles west of Boulder and 46 miles from Denver, Eldora is the backyard mountain for Boulder County and Colorado’s northern Front Range. From mellow beginner terrain to thrilling steeps and glades, Eldora has terrain for every type of skier and rider, including world-class Woodward terrain parks and progression-based learning. With its combination of proximity, fantastic learning terrain, low-key family-friendly vibe, and lesson programs for kids and adults, Eldora is known widely as Colorado’s best place to learn. Eldora also offers uphill-skiing access, plus 42 kilometers of Nordic and snowshoeing trails.
